What would you write about these photographs? Why write about photography at all? Isn’t a picture supposed to be worth a thousand words? Just as an image frames a visual viewpoint, words can offer context and perspective, influencing how we see. You can learn to influence how others see your work in our online, two-session “Writing About Photography” workshop, offered through the Griffin Museum of Photography on Saturdays October 26th & November 9th, 2024.
To start, we present an in-depth guide to clear and creative writing practices that you can utilize in composing project & artist statements, artist residency & grant applications, reviews & press releases, and more. There will be plenty of time for questions. Then, each participant will be given two weeks to prepare their own choice of a written piece.
In our discussion session, participants share their prepared statements. We instructors propose practical suggestions and all participants are invited to join in with questions, observations and constructive comments. Finally, each participant is offered an opportunity to re-write and submit their draft to us for a final, individual edit.
Through instruction, guided observation, discussion, practice, and individual feedback, this workshop will help you hone your skills for genuine and engaging writing about photography. At the end of the workshop, you will have a polished piece and a fresh approach to sharing your views. Why wait? Join us and get that bio, project or artist statement ready this season!
