Think it can’t happen? That “instant” is just for the young or petulant? Think again, because the Boston photo community is serving up some great things in small packages that will have you laughing off our frigid weather.
The fun begins TOMORROW, January 21, 2016 at the Photographic Resource Center (PRC), with Instantly Yours, their one-of-a-kind exhibit of Instant and Instagram photography in the main galleries. With contributions from the Boston photo community, this will be tasty! In the back gallery will be the wonderful, wacky brainchild of photographer Yorgos Efthymiadis, Off the Fridge, featuring his own selections from The Curated Fridge, the popular monthly photo exhibit regularly guest curated for, you guessed it, his kitchen refrigerator. (Yorgos’ perfectly serious work, Domesticated: Seeing Past Seduction can be viewed as part of the powerhouse shows on guns, ammunition and the way violence is media-packaged for public consumption, just opened at the Griffin Museum. For my review, go to: https://whatwillyouremember.com/griffin-museum-of-photography-exhibits-on-guns-ammunition-and-violence/). Kicking off the PRC’s 40th anniversary celebration, this show is proof that good things come in small packages! Join the party at a free, public reception Thursday evening from 5:30 – 8:00pm. Parking can be scarce, but there’s a T-stop practically in front of the gallery at 832 Commonwealth Avenue. For more information, go to: http://www.bu.edu/prc/
A brand New Year is the perfect time for re-invention and 555 Gallery is leading the way with a new program devised to be irresistible to those of us who love photography. Gallery Director Susan Nalband has gathered about a dozen superb photographers from a range of genres and developed an affordably-priced, small print program to help launch – or encourage – fine art photography collecting. I love this idea, even though it’s a bit scary to think what I might end up buying when I find myself surrounded like a kid in a candy shop. But really, I wish someone had thought of this when I was young and wanted to acquire artwork I couldn’t afford. Come see more proof that wonderful things come in small packages! In the 555 Gallery tradition, no “hard sell”, just their usual rockin’ opening reception THIS SATURDAY, January 23, 2016, from 5:00 – 8:00pm.
